Backyard for Apple Watch
Support
Backyard is a watch-only race timer for fixed-distance, fixed-window loop events, published by flyaurelien.
Before a race
- Allow Backyard to write Workouts in Health. The race cannot start without this permission.
- Allow Heart Rate and Walking + Running Distance reads for live metrics.
- Allow Health route sharing and Location access if you want a route saved with the workout. Declining either route permission does not block the race.
- Set the loop distance, loop window, optional loop goal, haptics, and Auto loop behavior in Settings.
- Test the complete flow on your watch before relying on it during an event.
During a race
- Swipe right from the Loop page to reach Controls. The only race actions are Bank loop, Finish, and Discard.
- The official loop schedule never pauses; every next start remains fixed to its original time.
- If Backyard is interrupted, reopen it. The app rejoins a surviving workout session and preserves the fixed race schedule.
- If the workout session is gone, Backyard offers to continue the same race schedule with a new workout segment.
Troubleshooting
- If a workout cannot start, open Health on the paired iPhone and confirm that Backyard can write Workouts and read Heart Rate and Walking + Running Distance.
- Confirm that Location Services are enabled if you want optional route recording.
- If another workout app starts a session, watchOS may stop Backyard's workout recording. Return to Backyard and verify the recording state before continuing.
